Graduation Walk For Confederate Flag-Wavers

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WCCO) ― Flying the Confederate flag has long been controversial in Southern states but now it's causing a heated debate at Kennedy High School in Bloomington, Minn. Three seniors who displayed the flag will not be allowed to attend their graduation ceremony Wednesday evening.

"It was sitting like that in the parking lot," said Justin Thompson, as he held a Confederate flag that was hanging from a pole inside a pick-up truck bed.

On Tuesday, three seniors, each with a rebel flag on the back of their pick-ups, parked at Kennedy High School.

"I'm just a country type of person, country music, big trucks and everything, that's basically all it means to me," said Thompson.

"And then I found out later that day that it had been taken off when I got called down to the office," said Dan Fredin, who displayed the flag.

They were suspended and the suspension means they're barred from all school activities including their own graduation ceremony.

"The Confederate flag is a symbol of, in some cases, hatred, bigotry and it has the potential to create a very disruptive environment," said Rick Kaufman, a spokesperson for the Bloomington School District.

Students protested the punishment and wore "Let Them Walk" at graduation T-shirts.

"You get to do this once in your lifetime. There's no point in why they can't walk," said one supporter.

Since the school principal is African-American, the students said that's why he was so offended and too harsh with their punishment.

However, the district said they consulted a white principal at another school who agreed with the suspensions.

As for the students involved, Fredin regrets it.

"I did not mean to offend anybody. I guess it's how you interpret it. And if I did offend somebody I'm sorry, it wasn't a shot at anyone," said Fredin.

Thompson defends his actions and the flag.

"It has nothing to do with hate and racism, that's just what these parents are teaching their children today," said Thompson.

A district spokesman said at the start of the school year, another incident prompted administrators to warn students the Confederate flag was not allowed on the grounds. So they feel as if the students had already received warnings.

The students will be allowed to pick up their diplomas on Friday.

huge rebel flag gets reaction

You may have heard. There was a new giant confederate flag flying near the intersection of I-4 and I-75 yesterday.

As you might expect, and as the organizers probably wanted, it sure is getting a lot of attention.

Steve Otto says it is Another Questionable Landmark:

“I would suggest that if Mr. Lambert or the good people of the Sons of Confederate Veterans want to get some tips on how to honor those who served and died, they ought to head up I-75 near Bushnell and drive over to the Florida National Cemetery, a magnificent memorial and resting place for those who served in our military.”

Sue Carlton thinks the Message is Clear:

“Supporters will tell you it’s all about preserving heritage. Sorry, but I don’t buy that wide-eyed line, or the idea that well-intentioned people interested only in remembering their history would use a symbol so abrasive, incendiary and hurtful to so many fellow citizens. Or that there is no other way to honor family than this.”

A Tribune editorial suggests the Flag Flies in Face of Good Taste:

“… if the group is sincere about wanting to honor its heritage, it would make the flag’s size proportional to the veterans’ memorial below. That would be the neighborly thing to do. Yet in its quest for attention, the Sons overlook the greater good. It’s a selfish move.”

If someone wants to put up a flag of the armed forces of a foreign country that only existed for less than five years over 140 years ago, well, this is the United States of America. And partly because the armed forces of the Confederate States of America lost their asses to the United States of America, being a citizen of the USA gives you and I the freedom to choose to pay $800 for a giant rebel flag made in China, and the liberty to raise it 139 feet in the air or so.

Man Killed After Tree Falls On Car

Fairfax County (web|news) Fire Officials have confirmed a person has died after a tree struck their SUV in Annandale.

It happened shortly after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Marshall Drive and Hummer Road.

Authorities have told ABC 7's Jay Korff that a male passenger was killed in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was injured and is expected to survive.

Virginia Dominion Power had to turn off the electricity at the scene so power lines could be taken off the vehicle before the tree could be removed.

A tree was also reported down on a house two blocks away in the 7500 block of Franklin Road.

SO DO DEMOCRATS, OF COURSE, BUT NOTHING SUCKS QUITE LIKE THIS AD

FITSNews - May 22, 2008 - As hard as it is to believe, this thirty-second audio-visual abortion was not produced in 1982 by a future Christian Coalitioner running for middle school homeroom representative.

Amazingly, that’s an ad for Congress … as in the U.S. Congress.

We’re not even going to address the candidates running for this “competitive” Missouri House seat (editor’s note: because we could care less ), nor are we going to delve into the claims this ad makes (editor’s note: because we could care lesser-er ).

What we do find amazing, however, is that the Republican douchebag who’s airing this travesty actually had the stones to say “I approve this message.”

Seriously, his points may be valid enough, but the bottom line is a mongoloid using his cell phone camera could have filmed a garbage can of used tampons for thirty seconds and exceeded the production value of this turdishness.
